Urbanvest Foundation is a Place of Safety and a Child and Youth Care Centre for 15 vulnerable girls from age 6–18.
Our professional team creates an individual development plan for each child in our care. It is based on the very specific needs of the child with the focus on an outcome that will add value to the child’s life. Our process is based on the ecosystem approach and is predominantly designed to support a child to become a responsible, accountable and mature adult person.
A therapeutic program is developed for each child to address possible trauma due to any form of child abuse to which the child was exposed to in the past. Here we deal with losses due to abandonment, physical and emotional threats and safety, and the loss of a family system.
Each child is on arrival assessed to establish her educational level of development and gain insight in her intellectual capacity. The assessment outcome guides the professional team to place the child in the appropriate educational institution for further development according to her capacity and future career decisions at the end of her school program.
Children are engaged in a life skills program to equip them to cope in the broader social context to which they are constantly exposed. Within the ecosystems of the school, church, sport, culture, holiday and camping groups where they hone these skills, they bring these life skills to a next level when they visit weekend families.
When and where possible, is our ultimate goal for each child to be reunited with their families of origin and/or significant others that formed part of her life before she was placed in alternative care. If reunification cannot take place, great care is taken to strengthen the relationship between the child and the above adults to add value to her life.
The house is founded on Christian principles. Each child is spiritually nurtured to find strength and solace in the Bible, daily devotionals, prayer and the weekly church gatherings attended with the housemothers. The organization is Christian faith based and as such considers the spiritual guidance of each child of paramount importance. Concepts such as gratitude, generosity, love, respect and empathy find expression in the interaction between the children and the professional team taking care of them.

Children grow like beansprouts. Ours are no exception. Help us to address the new clothes need when summer weather set in.
Every winter comes with longer arms and legs and bigger feet to cover and cuddle. Your contribution to help us dress our children in new winter clothes will be very much appreciated.
Our children gain enormously from tutors who bring their hearts and minds to address the shortfall that comes when a child is removed. As a rule school days are lost in the quest to find a new school. This is an opportunity for a committed tutor to make a real difference.
Contact us for our banking details and the issue of 18A tax exemptions certificates.
Our children accept invitations from families who have been screened for stay-overs. These weekend parents are guided into the logistics of becoming a weekend parent. Their contribution in our girls’ lives is enormous.

I've been involved as an Embrace Parent at Peas in a Pod for almost 2 years. It has been a life changing experience for us as a family and helped us grow on many levels. We rediscovered the value of family and inviting these girls into our home gave us the opportunity to love and embrace them for the beautiful, fun loving and friendly girls that they are.
Donor
I started my journey of giving with an aim to make a difference in life. The more I give the more I realised that the difference was also made in me as I learned to appreciate the value in giving and then my purpose in life also appeared vividly to me. Giving is not just about making a donation but more about making a difference in people’s lives and in turn your own.
